Summer Moving Season: Why You Need to Book Early

If you're planning a Calgary move between June and August, you're joining approximately 60% of all annual movers. Summer is by far the busiest moving season — and waiting too long to book can leave you scrambling.

Why Summer Is So Busy

• School schedules: Families with children prefer to move during summer break to minimize disruption
• Lease cycles: Many Calgary leases end June 30 or August 31, creating massive demand spikes on those dates
• Home sales: The spring real estate market means summer possession dates
• Weather: People naturally prefer to move in warm, dry conditions
• University turnover: Students moving in/out around the U of C, SAIT, and MRU creates additional demand

The Busiest Moving Days

In order from busiest to least busy:

1. Last Saturday of July and August
2. July 1 (Canada Day — many leases start this day)
3. Last weekday of every month (June-August)
4. First weekend of September (back-to-school moves)

How to Navigate Summer Moving Season

Book Early

This cannot be overstated. The best crews and time slots book up weeks in advance during summer. As soon as you have a confirmed moving date, call and reserve. A deposit holds your spot.

Be Flexible

If your schedule allows, moving mid-week (Tuesday-Thursday) or mid-month dramatically improves availability. Even shifting from a Saturday to a Friday can open up options.

Start Your Day Early

Calgary summer days are long — sunrise before 6 AM means an 8 AM moving start gives you plenty of daylight. Morning moves also beat the afternoon heat (Calgary can hit 30°C+ in July and August).

Hydrate and Protect

Summer moves mean heat. Have plenty of water available for yourself and the moving crew. Apply sunscreen if you're helping with loading. Keep pets and children cool and hydrated.
